Birthday Countdown

Enter your date of birth to see exactly how long it is until your next birthday, and which day of the week it lands on.

What is a birthday countdown?

A birthday countdown tells you how much time is left before your next birthday. Instead of counting squares on a calendar, you enter your date of birth once and the tool works out the date of your next anniversary, the day of the week it falls on, the age you will turn, and a live timer in days, hours, minutes and seconds.

It is handy for planning a party, booking time off, ordering a gift so it arrives on time, or simply knowing whether your birthday lands on a weekend this year. The timer counts towards midnight at the start of your birthday in your device’s time zone.

How to use it

  1. Select your date of birth in the date field. Only the date is needed.
  2. Press “Start Countdown”. The result appears straight away.
  3. Read the live timer, the date and weekday of your next birthday, and the age you will turn. Use Reset to try another date.

If your birthday is today, the tool says so rather than showing a full year of waiting. The countdown is calculated from your device’s clock, so a device set to the wrong date will produce a wrong countdown.

Worked examples

Example 1: a birthday later this month

Suppose today is 4 October 2026 and you were born on 20 October 1990. Your next birthday is 20 October 2026, which is a Tuesday. That is 16 days away, and you will turn 36. At 9:00 in the morning on 4 October, the timer reads 15 days, 15 hours and 0 minutes, because the countdown targets midnight at the start of the 20th.

Example 2: a leap-day birthday

Someone born on 29 February 2000 checks on 4 October 2026. The year 2027 has no 29 February, so the next birthday is taken as 28 February 2027, a Sunday, when they turn 27. In 2028, a leap year, the countdown would aim for 29 February again.

Frequently asked questions

What time does the countdown count down to?

It counts down to the start of your birthday — midnight at the beginning of the day — in your device's own time zone.

What happens if my birthday is today?

The tool shows a birthday message instead of a countdown. Tomorrow it will start counting towards next year's birthday.

How are February 29 birthdays handled?

In years without a February 29, AgeWise uses February 28 as the birthday, so the countdown always has a date to aim for.

Is my date of birth saved anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and the date is not sent to a server or stored after you leave the page.
