Days Until a Date

Pick any future date — a holiday, exam, wedding or deadline — and see how long is left in days, weeks and months.

What is a days-until calculator?

A days-until calculator counts how long you have to wait before a chosen date arrives. You give it one date in the future, and it compares that date with today, returning the gap as a number of days, as complete weeks plus leftover days, and as complete calendar months plus leftover days. It also tells you the weekday of the target date.

People use it to plan around holidays, exams, weddings, due dates, product launches, visa expiry dates and subscription renewals. Because it reads month lengths and leap years from the real calendar, the result stays correct across February and year ends.

How to use it

  1. Choose the target date. Today or any future date is accepted.
  2. Press “Count Down”.
  3. Read the totals. Use whichever unit suits your plan: days for short waits, weeks for training plans, months for longer goals.

Today is not counted and the count ends as the target date begins. If a rule you are following counts both the first and last day, add one to the day total.

Worked examples

Example 1: counting to New Year

On 4 October 2026, New Year’s Day 2027 is 89 days away: 27 days left in October, 30 in November, 31 in December and 1 more to reach 1 January. That is 12 weeks and 5 days, or 2 complete months (to 4 December) plus 28 days. 1 January 2027 is a Friday.

Example 2: crossing a leap day

From 1 February 2028 to 1 March 2028 is 29 days, because 2028 is a leap year and February has 29 days. The same dates in 2027 are only 28 days apart. In both cases the months result is exactly 1 month.

Frequently asked questions

Does the count include today?

No. It counts the days you still have to wait, so tomorrow is 1 day away and today is 0.

Is the target date included?

The count ends when the target date begins. If you need to include the target day itself, add one to the total.

Why do months and weeks give different answers?

Weeks are always 7 days, but calendar months are 28 to 31 days long. The months result counts real calendar months, then the leftover days.

Can I count to a date in a past year?

This tool is for future dates. For a past date, use the Date Difference calculator, which measures the span in either direction.
