Business Days Calculator
Count the Monday-to-Friday working days between two dates, take out any holidays you list, and see the weekends and calendar days alongside.
What is a business days calculator?
Business days, also called working days, are the days on which most offices, banks and courts operate: Monday to Friday, minus public holidays. Many deadlines are written in business days rather than calendar days, such as “payment within 10 business days” or “delivery in 3 to 5 working days”. Counting them by hand means checking every weekend and remembering every holiday in between.
This calculator does that count for you. It walks through each date in your range, sets aside Saturdays and Sundays, removes any holidays you have typed in, and shows the working days that remain. It also reports the total calendar days and weekend days, so you can see exactly how the number was reached.
How to use it
- Enter the first date of the period as the start date.
- Enter the last date of the period as the end date.
- Optionally list holidays that apply to you, one per line, in the format YYYY-MM-DD.
- Press “Count Business Days”.
Both the start and end dates are included. If your deadline rule starts counting on the day after an event, set the start date to that next day.
Worked examples
Example 1: a two-week project
Example 2: December with holidays
Leap years and business days
A leap day can add a working day. February 2028 runs from Tuesday 1 to Tuesday 29 February and contains 21 business days, while February 2027, with 28 days, contains 20. The calculator reads month lengths from the real calendar, so these differences are handled automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Are the start and end dates included?
Yes. Both dates are counted, so a range from Monday to Friday of the same week is 5 business days.
Which holidays are excluded automatically?
None. Public holidays differ by country, region and employer, so you type in the dates that apply to you. A holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday is already a weekend day and is not subtracted twice.
What format should holidays use?
Enter one date per line, or separate dates with commas, in the format YYYY-MM-DD, for example 2026-12-25.
My working week is not Monday to Friday. Can I still use it?
This calculator assumes Saturday and Sunday are the weekend. For a different pattern, use the total calendar days and adjust for your own rest days.
